GSD analysis of a sewing process

We know, the history of GSD or the meaning of GSD. Today we try to know its application in the garments industry. How can we use GSD to identify or the way to figure out a standard sewing process SMV.

Before starting, I have to discuss the basic motion of sewing. We know that A sewing process has below listed basic motion.

1. Pick up
2. Align
3. Put under the pressure foot
4. Sewing
5. Dispose

Without the above-listed motion, a sewing process can not be completed. GSD just break these basic motion into many many micro motions. To know the basic idea of GSD please visit our previous post by clicking this.

First of all, We have to show the below-linked sewing process video. It is the front-rise join process of the leggings item. After watching, we will analyze it with GSD & calculate the SMV of this process. And it is the standard process time for this Sewing process. Let's see the video:-

Process name:- Join front-rise
Machine type:- 2N/4T/OL

In this video, The operator is using 8 motions. The GSD analysis of these motions are:-

CODE Motion Details TMU
AS2H Get parts with 2 hands 42
MG2T Match and get 2 parts together 76
FOOT Put under the pressure foot 38
MS1A Sew approximately 1 cm 17
AM2P Align and match 2 parts 61
S10NA 10 cm straight sewing 34
TBLD Tread cut with fixed blade 33
FUNF Form layout or remove 23
Total TMU of this process                                                 324
We got the total TMU(time measuring unit) of this process as 324
So, the SMV of this process will be = (324/33.33)=9.7
And, It is the standard all over the world for this process.
